Eclipse, the Twilight Saga - Finally Some Bite
| I haven't been a big fan of this series so far. Mostly it made me snore. All the angst and unconvincing romance put me to sleep. There were far to few werewolves and vampires for my tastes.
But Eclipse finally gets into the battle and delivers a fairly ripping confrontation between the immortals... for the last 15 minutes. Unfortunately all that comes before is still the boring whining about who Bella loves more, the boring and wooden yet incredible sculpted Jacob or the weird looking and fairly banal Edward. Is there any doubt she will choose Edward in the end? I haven't read the books and don't know for sure but I'd stake money on it.
I was just about to give up on Eclipse, cause we were already 100 minutes into it, when the final battle started and it was a good one. For the last moments I was entertained. At least that's a step up from the horrible New Moon. Sure Bryce Dallas Howard makes a terrible villain (and not in the good way a villain is to be terrible) but she's appropriately vanilla and bland like the rest of the cast. Still, her last stand is bloody.
The special effects still feel cheap for a major summer blockbuster. Eclipse doesn't offer the most convincing werewolf transformations. I guess the real special effects are the wolf pack's abs. All of it would probably look more impressive on the smaller screen.
At least Eclipse saves itself from total boredom with its last act. If you haven't been able to stand this series so far, Eclipse is less painful than the previous installments. If that's praise.
