Losers, the (2010) - Not Complete Losers
| There are so many movies based off of comic books these days that it’s getting difficult to keep track of what is original and what isn’t. The Losers is the latest of this increasing trend. I’ve personally never heard of the comic, but that didn’t deter me from wanting to see it. I somewhat enjoy the cast and the action looked great – particularly the part with Zoe Saldana shooting that crazy ass rocket launcher!
The Losers are a group of ex-CIA agents that were framed and left for dead. They join forces with a mysterious woman to take down those responsible. Sound familiar? Well, that’s because they story is nothing new – it’s been done a million times before. That doesn’t make it any less entertaining though.
The Losers is an action movie through and through. Don’t expect much more then gun fights here and an explosion or two over there. The story is very basic and simple. The target audience is clearly young males, but I heard plenty of women laughing their asses off throughout the movie.
The humor was a great addition to the film. 95% of the humor is all thanks to Chris Evans; the definite comedic relief in the movie. He had the best lines and the best costume changes – all those shirts were fantastic (Go Petunias!). Chris was just downright hilarious and I wanted more of him. Him singing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” was fantastic. The rest of the cast was good too, but they had more serious roles to play. The bad guy, Max (played by Jason Patric) was pretty funny himself.
The film went by fast so I was clearly entertained which is always a good thing when it comes to movies. I wasn’t a fan of the music video feeling I got throughout though. There were some very obvious parts where the film actually looked like a music video – particularly when Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Zoe Saldana’s characters were coming out of the trailer type thing and it was edited to the music (you would have to see it to really get what I am talking about). If the filmmakers could have toned down some of the “stylistic” elements, it wouldn’t have been too distracting. That, and add a little something more to the story to make it different from the rest.
Either way, The Losers was very entertaining and worth the 98 minutes. The action was fast paced and well done. A great way to pass the time. Just leave your mind at the door.
